Abstract:

Background

Two putative methionine aminopeptidase genes, map(essential) andyflG(non-essential), were identified in the genome sequence ofBacillus subtilis. We investigated whether they can function as methionine aminopeptidases and further explored possible reasons for their essentiality or dispensability inB. subtilis.
