Technique for collection of root exudates from mature trees

Summary A technique is presented which permits the convenient field collection of root exudates from mature trees. The procedure involves a modified air-layering technique to obtain new woody roots. Root-exudate materials are then collected from these roots by a procedure similar to that employed to harvest seedling root exudates.
