Abstract: | ‘Intermediate’ spin iron(III) has been identified, using Mössbauer spectroscopy, in materials containing protoporphyrin(IX) iron(III). These materials were all precipitated from acid pH in the presence of a variety of ligands. The implications of the results are discussed both in comparison to other known ‘intermediate’ spin porphyrins and for their relevance to haem proteins. |
