黄腹角雉求偶炫耀行为

黄腹角雉雄鸟的求偶炫耀为典型的正面型。自12月开始炫耀行为即时有出现,至3、4月份达高潮,高峰出现于交配及雌鸟产卵期间。典型正面型根据炫耀程度可分完全及不完全求偶炫耀两种类型。雌鸟的反应是达到完全求偶炫耀的重要因素。完全求偶炫耀由6个动作组成,需时45—48秒。对雄鸟求偶炫耀时的叫声进行了声谱分析,频率范围与红腹角雉相似,但音节多。

COURTSHIP DISPLAY BEHAVIOUR OF CABOT'S TRAGOPAN

From Dec. 1985 to April 1986, the all day behaviour of captive Cabot's Tragopans (Tra-gopan caboti) was observed. The courtship display bhaviour of Cabot's Tragopan is of typical frontal displays. A full frontal courtship display consists.of six quite defferent separate segments as follows:(1) Facing the female, the male squats down, nodding and shaking his head occasionally to spread his lappet. (2) The male unfolds his wings,and the frequency of the wing beating keeps with that of the head movements. (3) The wings are slightly dropped. The frequency of the wing beating becomes faster. He beats his "wing slightly 4-6 times before each violent wing beating. (4) Stretching up his head, with violent, wing beating, the maleotters a "chi............." call, the rhytum of which is conincident with that of violent wing beating,about 15-16. times. The tail feathers are spread like a fan and vibrate slightly up and down. (5) At the climax, the male suddenly stretches up very tall, the bea'k pointed down, uttering along call "chi--". His feet stretch out and duaw back alternately. (6) Nodding hishead a few times, then the male ends his courtship display: The male courtship display may often be interrupted at any point of the six segments mentioned above, which depdnds on the reaction of female. The time spent on each full display is about 50 seconds. The sonagram of the male courtship display calling were analysied by the Digital Sona-Graph 7800.Upon our observation of the Cabot's Tragopan, lateral display is not a typical one, and it only appears when the male approached a female or other males.
