| Abstract: | The results of McDermott and Gibbs on the water content of branchsegments, and their conclusions regarding the effect of cuttingmethods, are reanalysed using a t-test on paired differences.It is concluded that the results do not give unequivocal evidencefor the presence of water columns under tensile stress. |
