Abstract: | Thermogravimetry shows that polycrystalline chlorophyll a is a chlorophyll dihydrate. Neither thermogravimetry nor differential thermal analysis indicates the existence of a stable chl a monohydrate. Moreover it is found that larger amounts of water-free chlorophyll a (>50 mg) cannot be prepared by application of vacuum and heat in a reasonable time, if chemical decomposition is to be avoided. Thin layers of polycrystalline chlorophyll a undergo spectroscopic changes depending on temperature and vacuum. |
