| Abstract: | A new method for the measurement of concentrations of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5HTP) in plasma is described. This method, which uses high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection, was used to measure 5HTP in plasma of patients with the carcinoid syndrome, and also in the plasma of rats after injection of 5HTP (30 mg/kg). A significant proportion of 5HTP was bound to macromolecules in plasma both in the rats and in the patients. |
