| Abstract: | Granules were isolated from amoebocytes of Limulus polyphemus and used in bactericidal studies. Whole granules, but not granular lysates, exhibited marked killing activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. These findings support the idea that amoebocytes are an important component in the defense system of this animal. |
