| Abstract: | Treatment of lignocellulose with ozone yielded products which included acids, sugars and a fibrous material rich in cellulose. Ozone attacks lignin and hemicelluloses in preference to cellulose, and is effective in disrupting the association between the various components so as to produce a substrate with enhanced reactivity to hydrolytic enzymes. |
