Abstract:Summary The intermediate zones in the sacral segments of guinea pig and rat spinal cords are histochemically investigated for the presence of catecholaminergic and cholinergic structures. The presence of a well-developed noradrenergic network is demonstrated. This network connects the preganglionic vegetative nuclei in horizontal and vertical directions. In addition, only some fibers from the bundles composing this network show acetylcholinesterase activity.
