Abstract:We have observed the 300 MHz high-resolution proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of the Escherichia coli tRNAGlu complex with the glutamyl-tRNA synthetase. The observations are fitted very well by a computer-simulated spectrum of the E. coli tRNAGlu itself, with the individual resonances broadened from 45 Hz to 150 Hz because of the increased molecular weight. This indicates that no helical arms open upon complex formation, nor is there evidence for any additional Watson-Crick base-pairs in the complex.
