Abstract: | Lentectomy of the newt eye leads to formation of the lens from the iris. The initial event which occurs in the iris after lentectomy is enhancement of uridine incorporation into RNA. The present data demonstrate that surgery on the cornea without lentectomy enhances uridine incorporation into iris RNA. However, the profile of incorporation after cornea surgery is different from that after lentectomy. Furthermore, cornea surgery fails to cause the high level of incorporation of thymidine into iris which occurs after lentectomy. Cornea surgery also causes enhancement of uridine incorporation into lens RNA with a profile different from that in iris RNA. |
