Abstract:Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD), as an epidemic metabolic disease, has been one of the research hot topics for a long time. Recent studies have shown that the development of NAFLD involves mitochondrial dysfunction, insulin resistance, oxidative stress, inflammatory response and other mechanisms. In these mechanisms, mitochondria and the complement both play important roles. However, the internal connections and synergistic effects between mitochondria and the complement in the development of NAFLD are still poorly understood. This review focuses on the roles of mitochondria and complement in the development of NAFLD, and also proposes the hypothesis that the complement may participate in the development of NAFLD by acting on mitochondria, which will help address the mechanism underlying the development of NAFLD.
