Abstract: | Sixteen species of Cerambycidae are newly recorded for New Brunswick, Canada; Arhopalusobsoletus (Randall), Atimiaconfusaconfusa (Say), Callidiumfrigidum Casey, Phymatodesamoenus (Say), Phymatodestestaceus (Linnaeus), Neoclytusmucronatusmucronatus (Fabricius), Xylotrechusaceris Fisher, Xylotrechussagittatussagittatus (Germar), Tylonotusbimaculatus Haldeman, Lepturgesangulatus (LeConte), Lepturgessymmetricus (Haldeman), Urgleptesquerci (Fitch), Oplosianubila (LeConte), Eupogoniussubarmatus (LeConte), Monochamuscarolinensis (Olivier), and Pogonocherusparvulus LeConte. Urgleptessignatus (LeConte) and Urgleptesquerci are newly recorded from Nova Scotia. All but two specimens were collected in 12-funnel Lindgren traps. Xylotrechusaceris, Tylonotusbimaculatus, Lepturgesangulatus, Lepturgessymmetricus, Urgleptessignatus (NS), and Pogonocherusparvulus were detected exclusively in traps deployed in the forest canopy, and most individuals of Oplosianubila and Monochamuscarolinensis were captured in canopy traps. Arhopalusobsoletus, Atimiaconfusaconfusa, Callidiumfrigidum, Phymatodestestaceus, and Xylotrechussagittatussagittatus were captured almost exclusively in traps near (1 m above) the forest floor. These results highlight the importance of sampling both the understory and upper canopy when using traps for surveying diversity of Cerambycidae. |
