Abstract: | Phylogenetic analyses based upon the D3 domain of the nuclear 23S rRNA gene and part of the mitochondrial COI gene indicate that the family Naididae is a subordinate group within the family Tubificidae and most closely related to the subfamily Rhyacodrilinae. Based upon relative genetic distances we hypothesize that the origin of Naididae occurred relatively early in the evolution of Tubificidae, but this was a fairly late event compared to the basic radiation among Annelida. |
