Abstract: | We isolated cDNA for regenectin, a C-type lectin of the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana), and analysed expression of the regenectin gene in the regenerating legs. Regenectin was found to be a member of the Periplaneta lectin-related protein family. We found that the regenectin gene was expressed specifically in the epidermal cells of the newly formed regenerating legs. Together with our previous results, these results suggest that regenectin is synthesized by epidermal cells, secreted into the regenerating leg saccule, and assembles around myoblasts to form leg muscle fibers in situ. |
