山西闻喜早更新世地层和哺乳动物化石

山西闻喜早更新世的哺乳动物化石发现并不十分丰富,由于地层出露较好,层位清楚,虽然地层较薄,但对确定早更新世,为今后进一步深入研究汾渭盆地的第四纪下限,古气候、古地理环境可提供依据。

EARLY PLEISTOCENE STRATIGRAPHY AND MAMMALIAN FOSSILS FROM WENXI,SOUTHWESTERN SHANSI

The present author observed early pleistocene stratigraphy and made a small collec-tion of mammalian fossils found in sands and gravels underlying the thick loessic bedsat Liyuan and Dongzhen in Wenxi district,southwestern Shansi.The stratigraphy of Wenxi can be divided into following stratigraphic units:Malan loessThis formation is 2 to 4 meters in thickness.Dingcun(Jiaojiawan)FormationGrey-yellowish clayey soil with fossil soil and lime nodule.Thickness about 4 meters.Lishi loessgrey-yellowish clayey soil with fossil soils and concertion of beds,Thickness more than 5meters.Plane of denudationSanmen FormationGrey-yellowish,grey-greenish clays,sands with conglomerate rock of lens.The fossils bearingin it.Thickness varying from 5 to 10 meters.Plane of denudation“Hipparion red clays”All the fossils were from the same stratigraphical horizon.The mammalian fauna consists of the following species:Hystrix sp. Axis cf.rugosusFelidae gen.et sp.indet. Axis cf.shansiusElephantidae gen.et sp.inde(?). Euctenoceros bouleiEquus sanmeniensis (?)Leptobos sp.Coelodonta antiquitatis Gazella sinensisCervidae gen.et sp.indet. Gazella cf.blackiAs can be seen from the above list this mammalian fauna is of early Pleistoceneage.It seems to be compared with that of Nihowan in North Hopei,or Xihoudo insouthwestern Shansi.
