Abstract: | Thioredoxin, a disulfide-containing protein having a highly conservative structure, is present in all types of organisms that are phylogenetically distant from one another. The protein possesses unique capabilities and is universal in respect of physiological functions it performs. In particular, this protein participates in nucleic acid metabolism and thus may protect cells against the lethal influence of gamma-irradiation. |
