| Abstract: | The archetypal strain of BK virus directed very little early gene expression compared with rearranged laboratory strains of the virus. One laboratory strain that was analyzed in detail contained newly created AP-1 binding enhancer modules spanning the junction between adjacent sequence repeats. Introduction of these sequences into the archetype activated the previously quiescent early promoter. |
