Resonance of the Larmor drift with plasma oscillations

Resonance phenomena arising when the Larmor drift velocity is locally equal to the phase velocity of plasma oscillations are analyzed. It is shown that, in a plasma with a nonuniform temperature, the wavelength of the oscillations sharply reduces at the resonant point, so that the oscillations convert into small-scale waves. In a plasma with a uniform temperature, Coulomb collisions cause the oscillations to dissipate at the resonant point. It is noted that a resonance with the Larmor drift can be used to heat the plasma.
