Orthogonal Components of the Kruskal-Wallis and Related K-sample Linear Rank Statistics

It is shown that the KRUSKAL -WALLIS statistic may be decomposed into components designed to detect trends in the underlying distributions. Extensions to other K sample linear rank statistics and to nonparametric regression statistics are noted.
