Abstract:Carbon monoxide in chemical combination can be determined by an indirect analytical procedure involving the determination of the sum of bound and dissolved carbon monoxide and subsequent elimination of the fraction dissolved by one of two methods: (1) extrapolation of total carbon monoxide to zero partial pressure; (2) subtraction of carbon monoxide found in a sample with the compound in a non-carbon monoxide binding form.14C-Labeled carbon monoxide was used to attain greater sensitivity. Standardization was based on the combining ratio of hemoglobin (1 carbon monoxide for 1 heme).
