Abstract:Objective To investigate the differences in intestinal flora among middle aged and elderly populations with different stroke risks, and provide a reference for the following study. Methods A total of 126 middle aged and elderly patients at risk of stroke underwent examination in our hospital from February 2017 to February 2019 were selected and divided into low risk group (n=48), medium risk group (n=45) or high risk group (n=33) according to risk classifications of stroke. The cognitive function of all patients was assessed, including 35 patients with mild cognitive impairment and 91 patients with normal residual cognitive function (control group). Fecal samples were collected, and bacterial DNA was extracted, then the composition of intestinal flora was analyzed. The contents of short chain fatty acids were compared among patients with different stroke risks. Results The intestinal flora in the low risk group were mainly composed of Ruminococcus, Clostridium leptum, Lachnospiraceae, Rothia and Butyrivibrio, those in the medium risk group were composed of Veillonellaceae, Enterobacteriaceae and Lactobacillaceae, while those in the high risk group was mainly composed of Veillonellaceae and Enterobacteriaceae. The abundances of Ruminococcus, Lachnospiraceae and Prevotellaceae in the low risk group were significantly higher than those in the medium risk group, while those of Enterobacteriaceae, Veillonellaceae, Clostridium and Streptococcaceae in the low risk group were significantly lower than in the other two groups (all PConclusion The intestinal flora have significant differences among middle aged and elderly populations with different stroke risks and with different degrees of cognitive dysfunction.
