| Abstract: | Abstract Analysis by electron microscopy of cells of Thermus thermophilus revealed the presence of a crystalline layer on the cell surface with the characteristic appearance of an S-layer. The layer is apparently built up by a single protein with a M r of 100 000 in a hexagonal array. The unit cell dimension of the S-layer is 24 ± 2 nm. |
