Effect of glycosaminoglycans on fibronectin-mediated cell attachment
Authors:Robert J. Klebe  Penny J. Mock
Abstract:In this study, the role of glycosaminoglycans in fibronectin-mediated cell attachment to collagen has been investigated. While it has been established that fibronectin possesses binding sites for several glycosaminoglycans, it was found that only dextran sulfate and macromolecular heparin could decrease the initial rate of cell attachment to collagen. Low molecular weight heparin was inactive. This study suggests that the glycosaminoglycan binding site of fibronectin plays a role in the mechanism of cell attachment.
