Effect of Cycloheximide on the Inverse Control by Phytochrome of the Expression of Two Nuclear Genes in Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)

The accumulation of mRNAs encoded by two phytochrome-regulatedgenes in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) was examined after a singlered light pulse in presence of cycloheximide. The initial increasein mRNA encoding the major light harvesting chlorophyll a/bbinding protein (LHCP) could still be observed indicating thatno protein synthesis-requiring step is essential for the transductionchain. The phytochrome-induced decrease in mRNA encoding NADPH:protochlorophyllideoxidoreductase was considerably slowed. (Received February 22, 1988; Accepted June 8, 1988)
