Abstract: | Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) techniques of analyses, it has been found that endogenous abscisic acid (ABA) becomes asymmetrically distributed in the elongation zone of horizontal Zea mays (cv. LG 11) roots which are showing a positive gravitropic response. There is a relative increase in the ABA content of the lower half and a concomitant decrease for the upper half in such roots. Asymmetric distribution of ABA is also detected in the elongation zone of half-decapped roots.Abbreviations IAA indoleacetic acid - ABA abscisic acid - GC/MS gas chromatography-mass spectrometry |
