Abstract:It is shown that injection of delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) into the substantia nigra reticular part (SNrp) suppresses generalized convulsive activity induced in rats by picrotoxin and corazol injection but exerts no influence on the strichnine-induced seizures. The analogous DSIP injection causes the antiepileptic action in rats kindled through picrotoxin injections. The DSIP intranigral anticonvulsant action is blocked by naloxon and enhanced by haloperidol and yohimbin. It can be concluded that DSIP anticonvulsant action may be realized due to activation of SNrp-dependent opioid mechanisms and suppression of dopaminergic ones.
