Abstract: | The DNA-DNA hybridization was used to characterize thirty isolates of root-nodule bacteria indigenous to the salt-affected soils of Egypt. Total DNA from different bacterial isolates lacked homology with total DNA probes of the effective strains ofRhizobium leguminosarum andR. meliloti. It is suggested that the genomic structure of the root-nodule bacteria may be modified by salt stress and/or that the effective strains of these bacteria are to be eliminated from the salt-affected soil. |
