Abstract: | The contribution of the adrenal glands to the pressor and nerve tissue necrotic responses that follow acute paralyzing spinal cord injury was determined in cats by total adrenal gland removal. The study suggests that either epinephrine or endogenous steroids may exert posttraumatic protective influences on the cord since after adrenalectomy, both the systematic pressor response and local hemorrhagic necrosis are significantly increased. |
