| Abstract: | Thymidine kinase activity has been demonstrated in purified mitochondria prepared from animal tissue, wild-type tissue culture cells, and BrdU-resistant cell lines. The BrdU-resistant cell lines lack a soluble cytoplasmic thymidine kinase present in wild-type cells, but continue to exhibit the minor mitochondrial activity. This elucidates the mechanism by which mitochondrial DNA is exclusively labeled in BrdU-resistant cells. |
