| Abstract: | Measurements of relative DNA contents in the genus Gossypium reveal more than a two-fold difference between the lowest and the highest values among diploid species with the same chromosome number. An experiment designed to detect intra-specific variation in DNA content is described. Phylogenetic implications, including the origin of amphiploids are discussed briefly. |
