| Abstract: | A high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) system is described that separates at least nine benzo(a)pyrene metabolites including an epoxide. The epoxide metabolite has been isolated and characterized as benzo(a)pyrene-4,5-epoxide by comparison of its HPLC retention times, ultraviolet and mass spectral analysis with synthetic benzo(a)pyrene-4,5-epoxide and its conversion by liver microsomes to benzo(a)pyrene-4,5-dihydrodiol. |
