| Abstract: | Summary The cytoplasm of the electrocyte of Electrophorus electricus possesses a meshwork of 7-nm thick filaments distributed throughout the cell. Observation of stereopairs of transmission electron micrographs shows association of the filaments with the plasma membrane and the membranes of cytoplasmic organelles. Intense fluorescence, indicative of the presence of actin, was observed in the cytoplasm of electrocytes incubated in the presence of NBD-phallacidin or anti-actin antibodies. |
