Application of Process Excellence in Hospital Department Management

High efficiency of hospital operation comes from high efficiency of departments operation. As one of important treatments in modern medicine, blood transfusion services of many hospitals are facing continuous increase of workload, shortage of competent personnel and/or physical space constraint. The Lean and Six Sigma methodologies are used to identify improvement opportunities and subsequent measures are taken to optimize the layout of the working areas and workflow. As a consequence, the sample-handling time was reduced by half, resulting in shorter no-value time and increased efficiency. The project in blood transfusion is a beneficial exploration for efficient hospital operation.
