Abstract: | Summary A major cause of tissue culture medium deterioration is exposure to room fluorescent light. Riboflavin and tryptophan present
in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's minimum essential medium, when exposed to light, yield toxic photoproducts responsible for
loss of the ability of the medium to support clonal growth of human, mouse and Chinese hamster cell lines. Procedures for
minimizing medium deterioration are discussed.
