Abstract:A conceptual analysis of morphogenetic growth patterns in biomineralizing Protista is presented as an organizing perspective for the analysis of skeletal morphogenesis in two species of Radiolaria. This analysis also serves as a rationale for the derivation of a method to quantitatively express the relationship of developmental stages of growth during ontogeny of Radiolaria and other mineral secreting microzoo-plankton. As the method is based on the morphology and weight of cleaned skeletons from each stage of development, it is applicable to living and fossil samples.
