Abstract:Embryonic chick spinal cord in advanced stages of differentiation was dissociated into its constituent cells by trypsin digestion followed by mechanical separation. The dispersed cells, singly or in clusters, when seeded on or in blood plasma clots, developed typical nerve fibers up to several millimeters in length. This technique lends itself readily to studies of single neurons, as well as their reactions to controllable influences of the medium and of other cell types.
