Abstract: | Sensitized parental strain lymphocytes can specifically inhibit proliferation of semiallogeneic erythroid cells grafted to irradiated syngeneic F1 hybrid mice. In H-2-incompatible strain combinations, inhibition is mainly caused by a direct attack of the lymphocytes against the grafted bone marrow. However, some indirect effect is also caused by a reaction of the lymphocytes against cells of the recipient. In this investigation we have shown that lymphocytes which have been sensitized against Mls-antigen-incompatible cells inhibit erythroid proliferation indirectly by reacting against host cells. The sensitized lymphocytes exhibit very little direct effect on the grafted bone marrow cells. |
