Abstract:
A technique for the fabrication of encapsulated micro-miniature rosette strain gages for in vivo implantation is described. The gage units have an overall area of ten square millimeters (2.5 mm × 4.0 mm), and hence can be installed in very small experimental animals, particularly rodents. Using a rat model, strain data for up to 12 days have been obtained and in vitro studies have validified the in vivo strain recordings.
