Abstract: | The following formation constants have been determine for nalidixic acid: proton, copper(II) complexation, magnesium(II) complexation, guanosine-5′-monophosphate-copper(II) complexation. Use of these data (together with the corresponding published constants of calcium(II), iron(II), manganese(II) and zinc(II) supports the hypothesis that the drug acts at a site other than extracellular. Complex formation between nalidixic acid, metal ion and DNA (at guanosine residues) is suggested. |
