Abstract:
  • 1.1. The proportion of Ehrlich ascites cells showing abnormal telophase figures was measured at the time of their maximum rate of appearance, after reinoculation into new hosts of cells irradiated in vitro.
  • 2.2. The oxygen enhancement ratio for sensitivity to 200 kV X-rays was m = 2.7 ± 0.1. It was not significantly different for low and high dose portions of the dose-response curve.
  • 3.3. The concentration of oxygen dissolved in the medium at the time of irradiation which resulted in one half of the oxygen-dependent sensitivity was Ko2 = 3.5 ± 0.5 μM/l.
  • 4.4. The value of Ko2 was not significantly different for cells irradiated at 3°, 18° and 34°, and it was concluded that the oxygen enhancement ratio at any oxygen concentration is independent of temperature in this range.
  • 5.5. The effectiveness of oxygen was not altered by the identity of the diluting gas, whether helium, nitrogen or argon.
