Abstract: | Sleeping time, immobility time and arousal time were measured in mice after hexobarbital as a means of separating the different depressant characteristics of this drug in combination with certain tranquilizers.Enhancement of this barbiturate hypnosis was shown by the drugs, chlorpromazine, reserpine, meprobamate and hydroxyzine. The sedation calculated from these measurements was either inhibited or unaffected by these tranquilizers. Arousal time appears to be a critical measurement of the hypnotic property of a drug. |
