Abstract: | Synopsis Two line-caught coelacanths, Latimeria chalumnae, were released for observation of their free-swimming movements in the open sea at a depth of about 50 m. Observations were made of their movement and use of the fins, interaction with humans (scuba diver), and colouration (white patches on dark background) as a possible means of camouflage. A new nomenclature is proposed for the caudal fin region and finnage. |
