| Abstract: | The freshwater crab, Barytelphusa guerini, tolerates gradual transfer to higher salinities upto seawater, regulating its blood chlorides fairly well. Its metabolic rate shows a minimum in 50% seawater and increases on either side, during dilution as well as during concentration of the medium. However, this increase is more pronounced in hypotonic than in hypertonic media. |
