Abstract: | Summary The haploid chromosome number ofHypoxylon rubiginosum is 5. The ascospore is uninucleate when formed, becoming binucleate following a mitosis. One of the nuclei subsequently disintegrates. Maturing ascospores are uninucleate. The morphology of the ascospore, as revealed by the scanning electron microscope, is described. The outer wall layer — the perisporium — shows heretofore undescribed surface fibrils. The possible significance of the fibrils is discussed.Paper No. 3205.
