Platyrrhine contribution to the phylogeny of the Primates

The morphology of the skeleton of both extant and fossil Platyrrhini often suggests an image of the ancestry of higher Primates, Man included. Here we give a survey of the characters of common origin to both groups. Reciprocally, a number of such original characters are seen to be maintained in modern Man, thereby placing him along a direct and singular evolutionary lineage.
