Abstract: | The preparation and characterization of manganese(III) complexes containing the quadridenate ligand, N,N′-bis(aminobenzylidene)-1,2-ethanediamine (H2amben), and its previously unreported analogue, N,N′-bis(2-amino-5-nitro-benzylidene)-1,2-ethanediamine (H2nitroamben), are described. The new manganese(III) halide/pseudohalide complexes, Mn(amben)X · nH2O and Mn(nitroamben)X · nH2O (X = Cl, Br, I, NCS; n = 0.5 or 1), were isolated as red-brown, microcrystalline solids, which were characterized fully. |
