Abstract: | Anterior lobe (AL) tissue of the ovine pituitary gland contained a form of immunoreactive dynorphin-A (ir-DYN-A) larger than that found in pituitary neurointermediate lobe. Administration of estradiol-17 beta or estradiol-17 beta plus progesterone to ovariectomized sheep decreased AL tissue concentrations of ir-DYN-A but did not affect any LH parameter. Enzymatically dispersed AL cells also contained ir-DYN-A, but specific release during in vitro incubation was too low to be detected even when cells were exposed to gonadotropin-releasing hormone. |
