Abstract:Reversible protein phosphorylation is the most widely used mechanism to regulate various physiological and pathological processes.Two|component system,which characterized by histidine phosphorylation,plays important roles in adaptation to environment,initiation of sporulation and other processes in prokaryotes.Current research reveals that this ancient signal transduction mechanism also exists in eukaryote such as fungus,slime mold and plants,in which it regulates the osmolarity and hormone signal transduction.However,two|component system in eukaryote is not only more complicated in organization pattern but also differs in biochemical mechanism when compared with that in prokaryote.This article explains the basic principal and physiological function of two|component system by comparing the examples in prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms with the results obtained in our laboratory.
